Oh happy Hagfish Day!
What's not to love?
They have a super ability to secrete slime out of pours in their bodies and fill up buckets and buckets in seconds! (Hence the Slimer costume).
They can twist their bodies into knots in order to get leverage, while biting off a hunk of scavenged flesh!
There's so much more.

Here's my annual hagfish story:
In 2017, they filled Highway 101 in Oregon up with slime. Imagine, you're driving along one of the most beautiful roads in the world, a truck turns over and suddenly your car is covered in these wriggly suckers!
I was actually stuck in that traffic (but a mile or two north of where it happened).
Later that day, I was at the @oregoncoastaquarium staring down a small tank filled with a few of the slime eels—hagfish and me were meant to be, I guess.

Due to overfishing in Asia, certain haggies are considered endangered. people have to get their delicious sticky monsters from Oregon.

Did you see the article about the baby two-headed Did you see the article about the baby two-headed shark that popped up as bycatch off the coast of India?

Well it happened and the first time I made a comic about 2-headed sharks was way back in 2016. Here's the old write-up:

Two-headed sharks are popping up every once in a while in labs and by fishermen. Nobody knows why they have this genetic anomaly—is it due to overfishing which creates a low gene pool? Toxic chemicals in the water? One thing is for sure, though, unlike these two makos, they are never found surviving outside the embryonic stage. How would they make up their minds?

Now let me ask you—would you want any extra body parts? An extra ear on your backside to hear your farts better, maybe?

Oh we owe so much to the horseshoe crab. I remembe Oh we owe so much to the horseshoe crab. I remember seeing them doze their way up the Jersey Shore when I was a kid. They're harmless, they look angry, and nowadays they have a right to be.

They've been scooting along the sand for no less than 440 MILLION YEARS (that's a while, like pre-dinosaur, pre-permian extinction) and now they're endangered.

BUT—they're endangered for a good reason! Their blue, copper-based blood has some chemicals in it that forms oozy walls around bacteria. So in 1970, scientists used it to form LAL, which is a substance that detects bacterial infections around medicines in labs. Before that, people who tested drugs had to inject lab bunnies with their pharmaceuticals to see if anything was contaminated.
Now people harvest about 600,000 horseshoe crabs a year, tap their blood and return them to the sea—some of which actually survive the process!
Because of their sacrificial blood, the IUCN has put these ancient creatures on their list of vulnerable species.

Finally—a non-cephalopod comic!

Some points of interest about the spotted salamander:

🟡 they have been known to live for more than 30 years!
🟡 when the atmosphere is right (good weather for them) the salamanders migrate to the vernal pool in which they were born and mate—sometimes hundreds of thousands can be seen at the same time.
🟡 their eggs can have a symbiotic relationship with the green alga Oophila amblystomatis. Since the salamander eggs are coated with a thick jelly, they can't breathe, so the algae farts out oxygen for the eggs while they're developing into tadpoles!

What's your favorite amphibian?

Alright ONE more comic about cephalopods, because Alright ONE more comic about cephalopods, because after all, October 9 is Nautilus Night.

🌀
It's fun to compare nautiluses and argonaut octopuses. They kind of look similar, based on the shapes of their shells, but thats about where the similarities end (besides the overall alien-looking cephalopodiness).
People have known for a while that the argonaut octopus (aka paper nautilus) develops its paper-thin, translucent shell to use as an egg case.
What they didn't know until recently is that the argonauts squirt air into their shells in order to remain buoyant at certain levels in the open ocean.
Nautilus shells, though, help the animal maintain their buoyancy by osmosis in their many chambers. Nautilus shells are also built for protection. They're well camouflaged (white on the bottom for looking up and darker on top for looking down).
While female argonauts hold on to their shells with their suckers, true nautiluses live inside theirs and can't leave. They're the only existing cephalopods which always live inside their shell.
You could say they're the turtle of the cephalopod world, but I don't know why you would.

Octopus Week Day 5: Most octopus species die right Octopus Week Day 5:
Most octopus species die right after they pass their genes on to the next generation. Males die almost as soon as they release their sperm to a female (if he's not eaten by his potential mate first). The females keep living until their broods hatch, then they die.
Scientists have discovered, though, that the clumsily-named Larger Pacific Striped Octopus (LPSO) breaks almost all the octo-rules. Not only does the male survive after mating, the female is able to have multiple clutches of eggs throughout her lifetime. What's more, LPSOs sometimes live together without cannibalizing each other—which is amazing, when you remember just how mean and solitary most octopuses are.
When you consider this, I'd guess the teenage LPSOs are quite a handful.

Octopus Week Day 3 — How would a blind octopus d Octopus Week Day 3 — How would a blind octopus do?

Cephalopods only have 1 light receptor in their retina, making them pretty much only able to see black and white. Scientists have puzzled for decades how these animals can change their skin to blend into their backgrounds so well—and more so—how they can take the risk of making themselves visible to their potential mates if they can't even see colors.
Well, apparently they can see colors, just not the way we do. A team of scientists are theorizing that their odd pupils, which can be W, U or dumbbell-shaped, let light in from many directions. This enables them to see colors. The researchers also believe that this kind of color reception takes up a lot of brainpower—a lot more than our circular pupils need—so that may be one of the reasons cephalopods became the most intelligent invertebrates.

Octopus Week Day 2 — A Classic Love Story This Octopus Week Day 2 — A Classic Love Story

This is one of my all-time faves. If you've seen it, share it!

The male and female blanket octopus have the largest size differential between sexes of any animal (not including microscopic life). If a male ever finds a female in the open ocean, the male will fill up his hectocotylus (a modified arm) with sperm, rip it off and hand it to her, then he'll die. The female will continue her pelagic life and collect more hectocotyluses in her mantle. When she's finally ready to have kids, she'll take the sperm sacks and squirt them over her eggs.

I'm sure you read the articles about it, but in ca I'm sure you read the articles about it, but in case you didn't, here's a quick summary:
Ever wonder why there are fish swimming around in ponds or lakes that seem to be disconnected to anywhere that a fish might be able to swim from? Wellsir, Hungarian scientists were wondering too (along with countless people who've wondered through the centuries). They decided to feed some carp eggs mallards to see what would happens on the backend.
It turns out that around 0.02% of the eggs survived the digestive journey and were still viable.
So there you have it, waterfowl spreading life to seemingly unspreadable places.
Are you like me? Are you reminded of how comets might have spread life to planets throughout the cosmos?

Wasn't there a Star Trek TNG episode about that, but instead of comets, the spreaders were an ancient humanoid species of some sort, selfishly spreading their own seeds?
Remember that?

Wouldn't Batman's sneaky, shadowy abilities fit better if he named himself Catman?

A friend of mine told me that there's really nothing NOT funny about Batman. Is that why he's so appealing? He sure takes himself seriously. But how serious can you be to wear that? Just curious.

I LOVE bats. There's nothing not amazing about them. I used to love Batman, until I started to think about Batman. I guess Lego Batman is pretty good.

What extinct animals would you want to see in the What extinct animals would you want to see in the living flesh?

Who says humans have no impact on their environment? Well, the naturalist Georg Steller, who explored Alaska, thought so. In those days, people hadn't realized the concept of extinction, let alone humans having the power to cause it. ⁣
⁣
In under 3 decades, the gentle sea cows that Steller observed protecting each other and seemingly mourning the deaths of herd members, were wiped off the face of the Earth. ⁣
⁣
Even though Georg found them to be delicious, some scientists aren't sure humans actually hunted them to extinction. Some scientists are suggesting that the overhunting of sea otters led to the demise of the sea cows. It's a simple formula: sea otters eat sea urchins, sea otters are hunted almost out of existence, overpopulation of sea urchins means they eat too much kelp, kelp is the main food source of the sea cows. No kelp = no sea cows!⁣

Living on islands in the Indian and South Pacific oceans, coconut crabs are as big as arthropods can get on land. And since they get up to about 1 meter (3.3 feet)—they get pretty stinkin' big.

Can Opener Day is right meow.

Take a close look at the face of the cat on the right. When I made this comic last year I tried to make it look creepy. Did I succeed? Does everything I draw look creepy?

Apparently Can Openers didn't come around until 50 years after people started canning food, thus making this an important holiday. Because, if you think about it, these days without can openers, we'd be just like the cats in this situation.
Apparently people used to use a hammer and chisel to cut around the top of the can.
What's the bigger mess: bloody people or spilled can goods?

Even though it's Shark Week—I can't ignore World Lizard Day!

Did you know until around 10 years ago, people thought the largest lizard in the world killed its prey by using a mixture of rancid bacteria in its mouth? It was thought the Komodo dragon would bite, then infect what it was going to eat.

Well, now it's known that the dragons use venom glands in their mouths to poison their food in order to disable it. The scientists were flabbergasted, wondering how they missed this adaptation for so long!

So it goes with science—the only thing constant is change. We're all witnessing that through our pandemic, eh?

(If you're looking for sharks, you can pretend there's one swimming off Komodo island is the background.)

Here's an old shark comic for you all. I'm not sure this would ever happen. But did you know that makos are the fastest sharks in the ocean? Imagine how fast they'd go with a bitey eel on their tailfin.

There are three kinds of thresher sharks: common, bigeye and pelagic.
My question to you is what kind of shark would you want to be?
-Toothy, like great whites and such
-filter feeder, like whale or basking
-Carpet, like Billabong
-Thresher for a tail-whip
-Rays, manta, stingray
-Or something else?

I guess it was only a matter of time before I made I guess it was only a matter of time before I made a comic about one of these frogs. I mean, come on!

Full-frontal Factoids:
Living exclusively in the troubled waters of Lake Titicaca in Bolivia and Peru, these highly endangered frogs dive deeper than any known frog.
Their baggy skin helps them absorb oxygen like a gill (no word on it shriveling up in colder water).

The frog's numbers are decreasing drastically. Its population has declined about 80% in the last 15-20 years! The reasons for its decline is because people eat too many of them! And so do introduced trout. And, of course, the enormous lake has plenty of pollution.

They’re also caught for traditional “medicine” but this, apparently, is a new thing. No records are found of them in markets 100 years ago. Perhaps they’re used as tea bags 😉?

Would you rather be a reptile or an amphibian?

As far as scientists know, the orca, short-finned pilot whale, beluga and narwhal (plus most recently false killer whales) are the only animals to go through menopause. Most every other healthy creature can reproduce until the day it dies.

It's believed the reason for this is because the grandmas are the leaders of the pods. They live with a couple generations of their offspring. They know where the food is, how to get it and when to get it.

Of course, none of the whales live together in the wild—but if they did—I think once a week they'd resolve their issues after 20 minutes over dessert!

Video games are a gas for excitement for Production X. Ever since video games encompass a huge number of digital resources, there are particular games that require particular software or a device to operate.Nintendo, Play Boy, Xbox, as well as PlayStation are a few examples of apparatus and prerequisites that people must possess to play matches. However, one must admit, no one is actually capable of buying all these devices.

Taking these constraints in mind, this guide will explain how to play GameBoy Advance games on the PC.

What’s GBA?

It is a product belonging to the Game Boy family line, and most of us would remember it as the purple coloured console used to play a number of 32-bit video games as a kid. With the progress of video game consoles and the wide range of games offered in the current market, GBA was discontinued in 2010, since Nintendo has started manufacturing more advanced products.

How to Play GBA Games on PC? An emulator is a software or a hardware, which is installed into a computer to act in a special way.

Within PCs, an emulator makes the computer act like a different computer or device. By downloading GBA emulator on the PC, while playing with the game, the computer will act as though it is a GameBoy Advance and thus, will encourage GBA games or ROMs.

Many emulators are available which can be downloaded in the PC to play GBA games. An individual can find Game Boy Advance emulators on site.

Make certain to confirm the kind or type of applications before downloading, depending on the hardware and software ability of your PC. Click the Download button and the emulator will start downloading. Once the emulator was downloaded, click Run to start the setup installation. Following the emulator was installed, activate the software. The application of the emulator may also be observed on the background of their PC. To start any GBA game, one wants to click on the emulator software to trigger it.

Step 2 — Download GBA ROMs

ROMs are used to store data within a computer device. GBA ROMs are essentially like a software bundle of the entire game which can be played on almost any PC, given that a GBA Emulator is currently downloaded within the computer.

One can simply find GameBoy Advance ROMs on Website. It’s a website where ROMs could be downloaded of several consoles over the PC in order that games of those particular consoles could be performed directly on the computer. Since GBA games are widely in demand even now, the ROM can be easily downloaded from the mentioned web site.

ROMs can even be found on Website along with a lot of other matches of GBA. It’s one of the most well-known and trusted website for downloading the ROMs and GBA games. In addition to GBA games, an individual can also find a variety of games, which initially belong to other consoles. The games and ROM can be downloaded free of charge, with no risk of virus or malware.

Downloading GBA ROMs

  • Visit Roms-Download and then Choose the game from a huge variety of catalogues inside the website.
  • While selecting the match, be sure to check the score as well as the amount of downloads of the particular game. This gives an idea about the authentication and even prevalence of the game.
  • Choose the game and then click on the Download button.
  • The ROM will start downloading, and once it’s done, click Run to install the game on your PC.
  • When the game was downloaded, first click the emulator to trigger the software and then open the game.

Conclusion

Roms-Download Includes a group of all of the emulators on consoles, and one would also be surprised to take a look at the huge variety of games that can be found on the https://roms-download.com/roms/gameboy-advance. Just a few easy and simple steps and you can get into the world of the ideal video games on the PC itself.
